OVERVIEW

The premise

Hello Cirkl sought a comprehensive UX/UI redesign to address usability issues and feature gaps in the 1.0 version, which had limited functionality due to previous design constraints.

As the sole UX/UI designer, I led the 2.0 redesign from initial concept to final handoff, developing an app experience that promotes effortless planning and brings people together, while positioning the app for growth.

The problem space

The main challenge was to design an app that would facilitate seamless event planning, reduce planning time, and prioritize making memories over logistics. Hello Cirkl’s 1.0 version, while innovative, faced usability challenges due to its focus on a single type of user group, limited interactivity, and inefficient flows.

The goals

These goals shaped a design approach that was user-first, focusing on usability, inclusivity, and flexible navigation to suit a wide variety of planning needs.

Expand the User Base

Transition from family-focused planning to a more universal tool usable by social, professional, and academic groups.

Redefine Cirkl Structure

Enable individual members and Cirkl groups to function within the app with clear, flexible navigation.

Improve Usability

Enhance the app’s interface and user flow to reduce planning time and create a stress-free planning experience.

PROCESS

The design journey

Research and insights

I began with user feedback sessions to identify specific pain points and insights into user needs:

Time Constraints and Efficiency

Users felt that planning even small gatherings required excessive coordination and time.

Need for Multi-User Flexibility

Enable individual members and Cirkl groups to function within the app with clear, flexible navigation.

Feature Prioritization

With these insights, I identified the features most critical for the 2.0 version, including streamlined scheduling, clearer user navigation, and adaptable group management for various contexts.

Concept + feature prioritization

I translated the user insights into a new app concept focused on practical, efficient planning tools.

Feature Prioritization and Structure

Working closely with the team, I prioritized features that would enhance scheduling, group communication, and event visibility across multiple demographics.

Wireframes and Site Map

I developed a site map and wireframes to organize the Cirkl’s navigation flow and ensure that each feature’s placement felt intuitive.

Accessability-Focused CTAs and UX Writing

Recognizing the wide demographic, I crafted clear, purpose-driven CTAs and UX writing to make each action straightforward for users of all ages and backgrounds.

UI iterations + collaboration

To ensure the app’s visual appeal and functional robustness, I iterated the UI based on developer feedback:

Feedback Loops

Regular feedback from the engineering team refined the design’s feasibility, optimizing interaction flow and ensuring the app was technically sound.

Usability Testing

I conducted usability testing across diverse demographics, including students, families, and professionals. Their insights informed design refinements, ensuring the app met real-world needs.

OUTCOME

A flexible, inclusive planning platform

Hello Cirkl’s redesigned 2.0 version successfully positioned the app as a streamlined, user-friendly platform for collaborative planning, set to launch on both iOS and Android. The project achieved a user experience that resonates with Hello Cirkl’s vision of making meaningful connections by reducing logistical stress.

OUTCOME

Feature roadmap and key learnings

The redesigned Hello Cirkl app launched as a user-friendly tool that simplifies planning for families, professionals, and social groups alike. Increased funding following the MVP release proved the success of the redesign and secured its future on iOS and Android platforms.

This project reminded me why I love designing productivity tools—it’s about solving today’s challenges while staying ready for what’s next. Hello Cirkl is more than a scheduling tool; it’s a product designed with impact and longevity in mind.

Future updates will include data-driven feature rollouts, including automated scheduling for group Cirkl availability and “Cirkl Stories."
